Typhoon Karen Also Hit PH In 2008 When Ginebra Won
As the Typhoon Karen, with an international name Sarika, has already passed the Philippines, and left destruction in most parts of Northern and Central Luzon, will this also leave a positive sign for the Barangay Ginebra Kings?
Carlo Pamintuan of Sports5 has posted something that will surely make any basketball fan in the Philippines think as he reveals a piece of history on social media.
He discovered that the Barangay Ginebra Kings had won their championship in the Philippine Basketball League (PBA) in 2008 when a typhoon named Karen also hit the country back then.
Pamintuan wrote on his post on Twitter:
“8 years ago, a typhoon named Karen also entered the Philippines before Ginebra won the championship. Will history repeat itself?”
A typhoon with the same name entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility last weekend but, didn’t stop the Barangay Ginebra Kings from winning the Game 4 of the PBA Finals, leading the series with 3-2 against the Meralco Bolts.
Now, the Kings are just one win away from gaining the championship.
Back in the 2008 Fiesta Conference of the PBA, the Barangay Ginebra Kings won in a hard-fought win in Game 7 against Air 21 as a typhoon also entered the Philippines and affected the Northern Luzon.
In a report by ABS-CBN, the 2008 Typhoon Karen with an international name, ‘Nuri’, has affected about 300,000 people and took the lives of 12 people.
The Game 6 of the PBA Finals will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at the Big Dome.
Who do you think will win the 2016 PBA Finals? Will it be Barangay Ginebra Kings or the Meralco Bolts?
